Vietnam and Sweden expand cooperation in innovation and business networking
Vietnam and Sweden continue to strengthen their partnership to expand the cooperation space in innovation and business networking.
On May 20, 2026, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (MST) Hoang Minh held a working session with Ms. Camilla Mellander, Director-General for Trade Policy at Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, along with a delegation from the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, to discuss solutions to promote innovation cooperation and business networking between the two countries.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to the fine traditional friendship with Sweden - one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.
From the early days, Vietnam and Sweden implemented the Vietnam - Sweden Research Cooperation Program for the 1977-2012 period.
With funding of over 341 million krona (approximately 45 million USD) from the Swedish Government, the program supported the training of human resources and built a solid foundation of science and technology capacity for Vietnam.
After 2012, the two countries shifted their model towards an equal and mutually beneficial partnership. In particular, the signing of the Strategic Sector Cooperation Agreement in the fields of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation has opened up a more substantive development phase, aligned with international trends.
Attending the working session, representatives from many of Sweden's leading enterprises and technology corporations in the fields of digital infrastructure, automation, textile recycling, pharmaceuticals, radiation monitoring, and industrial software shared their desires to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam.

In response to the discussions by Ms. Camilla Mellander and Swedish enterprises, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh affirmed that science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation are currently the leading drivers for Vietnam's socio-economic development.
The MST also identifies copyright protection as a strategic task serving national development, while committing to always creating the most favorable conditions for Swedish organizations and enterprises to connect and realize effective cooperation programs in Vietnam.
