Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh, a member of the National Election Council, held an exchange with press agencies to discuss highlights and preliminary assessments of the election.

On the afternoon of 15 March, at the Election Press Center (National Assembly Building), Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh discussed the standout features and provided a preliminary evaluation of the elections for deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 tenure.

Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh noted that this election cycle incorporates several new elements compared to previous ones, the most significant being a timeline shortened by more than two months.

However, the electoral processes and procedures, specifically the three rounds of consultative conferences and personnel requirements remain consistent with previous cycles, complemented by even stricter guidelines for candidate selection and screening.

Beside the accelerated timeline, the effective application of digital transformation (DT) has been a decisive factor. Consequently, it can be affirmed that all activities have been deployed methodically, in accordance with protocols and procedures, and with strict adherence to requirements.

We observe that digital transformation and the application of information technology have been highly effective, meeting the necessary requirements. The generation of voter cards was convenient and accurate. This efficiency spanned from personnel selection to the three rounds of consultative conferences; candidates were even able to submit their dossiers electronically. These processes occurred very smoothly”, the Vice Chairwoman stated.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thị Thanh also noted: We have adopted a format of voter meetings that combines in-person engagement with online interaction. This approach greatly supports many candidates in conducting voter outreach. Voters are able to learn about the candidates, while candidates do not necessarily have to travel to each location in person to meet voters. This is also a very new feature in this election.

The combination of in-person and online voter contact allowed candidates to reach their constituents faster and more extensively. From a single broadcasting point, a candidate could interact with voters across all communes and wards, and voters could concurrently access the candidate's action program.

A term of the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels that meets the requirements for reform.

According to the Vice Chairwoman, this election took place immediately following the highly successful 14th National Party Congress. This created a positive ripple effect across society and facilitated favorable conditions for election organizational work.

The screening and preparation of personnel for National Assembly and People’s Council deputies were conducted early and from afar, particularly aligned with the preparatory process for Party Congresses at all levels. The process was rigorous, featuring specific instructions on structure, standards, and reasonable composition to represent all social strata while maintaining a primary focus on quality.

"We expect that this election will select deputies of higher quality, and we will witness a National Assembly and People’s Council term that meets the requirements of innovation, ready to lead the country into a new era - the era of national rise", expressed Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh.

Election results expected on 22 March 2026

Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh also outlined the immediate post-election tasks, which include the evaluation and announcement of results. In this election, digital transformation has met expectations, and the aggregation of results will be highly efficient. Therefore, the official results are expected to be announced on 22 March.

Following the announcement, a report will be submitted to the National Election Council for the certification of election results and the formal verification of the status of elected deputies. Once these steps are completed, a grand review of the election will be conducted, tentatively scheduled for 3 April.

Regarding the organization of the first sessions of the new National Assembly and People’s Councils, authorities have officially issued guidelines to localities.

"We are currently seeking opinions from competent authorities to organize the first session of the new National Assembly, expected in early April 2026. This session will carry out personnel work and other contents according to the functions and duties of the National Assembly", said Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh.
