Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai to manage Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, has been assigned to manage the Academy’s operations starting from February 26, 2026.

Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai has been assigned to manage the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

The Prime Minister has recently signed decisions regarding the leadership personnel of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).

The Prime Minister assigned Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai, Member of the Party Central Committee and Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, to manage the operations of the Academy until the competent authorities finalize the appointment for the position of VAST President in accordance with regulations.

The Prime Minister also decided that Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, former member of the Party Central Committee and President of VAST, will step down from the position of VAST President to take on another assignment following the decision of competent authorities.

Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh left his position as VAST President to join the Executive Board and Standing Committee and serve as the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) for the 2025-2030 tenure.

Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai was born in 1974 in Ha Tinh Province. He graduated from university in Russia and defended his doctoral dissertation in Earth Sciences and Mathematics at Heidelberg University (Federal Republic of Germany).

He spent many years working at the General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

He also previously served as Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (former), Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, and Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Council./.
