Vietnam and United States strengthen technology business connectivity
Strategic technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital infrastructure are among Vietnam’s top development priorities and serve as key areas for expanding cooperation and connectivity between Vietnamese and U.S. technology enterprises.
On August 3, 2026, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (MoST) Pham Duc Long held a working session with a delegation of U.S. technology enterprises led by Mr. Patrick Sweeney, Founder and Principal of American Kestrel Group.
The delegation comprised 20 representatives from U.S. companies operating in AI, digital infrastructure, and software.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of units under the MoST, including Department of International Cooperation, Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence Authority, Department of Science and Technology, and Authority of Telecommunications, as well as representatives of Vietnamese technology enterprises, including VNPT, Viettel, BKAV, CMC, and FPT.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long stressed that Vietnam prioritises the development of science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, the digital technology industry, AI, digital infrastructure, and other strategic technologies to enhance national competitiveness and drive economic growth.
Representatives of the Ministry’s units also introduced the country’s development orientations in AI, high-quality AI human resources, strategic technologies and technological self-reliance, national digital infrastructure, and opportunities for cooperation with international enterprises.
The discussions also highlighted Vietnam’s continued efforts to improve its institutional framework, business and investment environment, and relevant policies to facilitate technology research, development, and application, while attracting technology enterprises, experts, and engineers from abroad, including those from the U.S.
Following the presentations by Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long and the Ministry’s representatives, Patrick Sweeney and the U.S. technology delegation commended Viet Nam’s strategic vision for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
The delegation also expressed its interest in strengthening cooperation and fostering connections between Vietnamese technology enterprises and international partners in areas such as AI sovereignty, telecommunications networks, small modular reactors (SMRs), and microreactors, with the aim of creating mutually beneficial partnership opportunities.
Representatives of Vietnamese technology enterprises also expressed their desire to expand cooperation with U.S. partners in AI research, development, and application, digital infrastructure development, human resource training, and technology transfer, thereby enhancing the international competitiveness of Vietnamese technology companies.
According to a representative of Viettel Group, the corporation proposed expanding cooperation with U.S. enterprises in electronics manufacturing, semiconductor ecosystem development, the establishment of research laboratories, and AI research and application.
Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long welcomed the constructive exchanges between enterprises from both countries and called for continued engagement to promote cooperation in research, technology development and transfer, investment, and the training of high-quality human resources./.
